Protect Baltic: Internationales Forschungsprojekt zum Schutz der Ostsee

Vor dem Hintergrund der EU-Biodiversitätsstrategie 2030 ist es das Ziel von Protect Baltic, das bestehende Netzwerk der Meeresschutzgebiete in der Ostsee zu evaluieren und zu optimieren. Langfristig wird damit positiv zur Biodiversität und zum Schutz mariner Ökosysteme beigetragen. Zusammen mit anderen Einrichtungen befasst sich die Arbeitsgruppe an der Jade Hochschule u.a. mit der Überprüfung des ostseeweiten Schutzgebietsnetzwerks auf ökologische Kohärenz und der Erarbeitung dafür notwendiger Datengrundlagen. Ein ökologisch kohärentes Schutzgebietsnetzwerk bildet eine wichtige Grundlage für Management- und Governance-Maßnahmen in der Ostsee. Insgesamt 17 Partnerinstitute aus Dänemark, Estland, Finnland, Lettland, Litauen, Schweden und Deutschland sind an dem Projekt beteiligt. Gefördert wird das Projekt über das Programm HORIZON der Europäischen Union. Das Projekt läuft von 2023 bis 2028.
