WorldPop Global Demographic Data
The WorldPop project aims to produce grid-based population estimates up to 2030 broken down by sex and age groups. The overall project is led by Prof. Andy Tatem of the University of Southampton. With this framework, IAPG is responsible for the development and scientific evaluation of an innovative spatial data management system for the harmonization and coordination of population statistics based on administrative and statistical subnational territorial units. Challenges include ensuring consistency and modeling changes in spatial reference so that the database is simple and usable over the long term. The 2020 census round (i.e., 2015 to 2024) is the primary focus. The data from the data model developed at IAPG will be used as input for the overall WorldPop model.Funding source
